I tested teeworlds and ddnet on many hardware, old, very old, new and not so new, and on each Teeworlds render as good as DDNet, and use less GPU power... without mentioning the CPU usage, much lower for Teeworlds ! So what is doing DDNet in background or what inefficient modernization was chosen ?
Teeworlds render is better than DDNet on my old computer (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 940M). But DDNet render is better than Teeworlds on my current computer (NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070).

Teeworlds runs great on older hardware, but I think its rendering isn't well optimized for modern hardware

A distant history that has sunk into the past

It's strange that no one has contact with the maintainer.

Oy will come back by christmas either way, though it's a bit far

Where do you get the information and meaning from, will it return to him after so many years of inactivity?
Avatar
I'm not implying he will return to previous levels of activity, in fact I'd rule that out given the general inactivity of developers (but that's a very old argument)

I assumed this, but in general, why should he show any activity at all?

Everything has been done, no more innovations are required.

maintaining an open-source repository goes beyond innovations
18:44
(and besides, there are many things that could be done, and many things that have been approved to be done if you check the github issue tracker)

Hm ok
18:45
but for innovations there is, or for some things there is ddnet
Avatar
ddnet is a fork that went a long way, yes, there are other forks, and that does not mean the original cannot improve either or integrate forked developments that are deemed fit, like it has many times in the past

But why didn't oy do anything for so long then?
Avatar
Oy has been the developer that worked on Teeworlds for the longest amount of time (excluding the original creators). no one comes close
Avatar
he know the source like his pockets apparently (edited)

dont think anyone does on such a large collaborative project

experiment modding menus_start.cpp UI
23:15
by exlporing the code I discovered the UI height is fixed at the value of 600
Avatar
Tbh I really don't think more UI changes is what Teeworlds desperately needs 😅
Avatar
sure, but is fun to learn what happens at the beginning, see how the flow goes
Avatar
A lot of fixed values in the UI, yes
