it's just never been implemented i guess

It's just a weapon effect. They don't have prediction in general. The weapon input is also handled differently. It's not as reliable for prediction like the movement input

From what I remember there were times with > 1000 online players between 2008 and 2010. Mostly distributed between vanilla, instagib and race

Wasn't there like... ~1300 in 2013?

I recall problems with master server when I could not find servers for weeks. After that community gone down tenfold.
