I'm having problem with setting up my server
16:16
yesterday it worked just fine and I've played on it with a couple of friends and today I get this message in cmd window: "Master server is not responding, switching master" over and over again
16:17
im on 0.7.5 win64 version and yesterday won a battle against router forwarding and ports on to get it working (edited)
16:23
could someone help me out?
Avatar
(we really should suppress this master server status spam)
16:26
@Tcional which master does it pick?
Avatar
it switches between 1, 2, 3 and 4 (edited)
16:29
and all of them fail to connect
16:32
I can't find any information on the google about that issue, that's why I came here with it. If you have a site that tells how to solve this one I would be happy to stop my spam on that topic 😛

btw, basic issue is that I don't see the server on the list, nor can I (or anyone) connect to it. I guess this master server thing is the clprit here
Avatar
hm.
16:43
no one can connect even via IP address?
16:43
that would not be the fault of the master
16:43
that the server does not show up in the list is the fault of the master
Avatar
I've tried and it says "unable to connect"
Avatar
do you host it on your own computer?
Avatar
then you need someone else to test it
Avatar
did you open port(stupid question, ik)
Avatar
you can PM me your IP address if I should test
Avatar
yesterday everything worked fine, I forwarded the ports on the router, opened the TCP and UDP ports on the PC and played more than a couple of games
Avatar
perhaps your IP address in your home network changed and the router no longer forwards these packets to you, but to some dead IP address?
Avatar
it's set up so that it doesn't change
Avatar
cannot connect
16:45
so the port isn't forwarded correctly
16:45
(this part has nothing to do with the master server)
16:46
we're talking about a 0.7 server, right?
16:46
could it be that the port forwarding changed even tough the router didn't restart during that time?
Avatar
I don't know your router model, perhaps
16:55
i've got it
16:55
i think
16:55
need to check
Avatar
sooo, my router suddenly started to give me new IP, so that was the case
17:17
thanks for the insight, guys
17:17
it should be alright now and I can connect to it
Avatar
well, you get a new IP about every day
17:20
gotta share your external IP with your friends every day or give your server a unique name to be found online: https://www.whatismyip.com
See your real public IPv4 and IPv6 address. Make sure your VPN or Proxy are masking your IP address details. We provide IP address tools that allow users to perform an Internet Speed Test, IP address lookup, proxy detection, IP Whois Lookup, and more.
Avatar
my external IP doesn't change
17:22
my internal IP on the other hand got changed since yesterday
Avatar
lol, weird router
Avatar
and it didn't use to change it, probably something got screwed during setup or sth
17:23
anyway, thanks for the help
Avatar
I wonder why it got marked as not responding…
Avatar
router forwarding to incorrect IP internally?
17:36
while giving the host computer a new ip, what's weird
Avatar
it may happen in a busy wlan network, that you get another internal ip, because your old one is already occupied
Avatar
last part of my local IP got changed overnight so ports were not forwarded to me completely and then it gave this message in cmd when trying to launch the server
Avatar
my old one wasn't occupied because we have a handful of PCs and all of them have internal IP set not to change
Avatar
you should assign that specific ip to your mac address
Avatar
If anything on the network is using DHCP you'll need to reserve the static IPs somehow, whether it's by making the DHCP pool smaller or reserving specific addresses for MACs, otherwise DHCP can and will just give out your "static"/chosen IP address to someone else
Avatar
@Tcional the others are right, you need a static ip: you need to google it for your OS and your router
Avatar
Already did that. As I mentioned above it used to be static, but for some reason no longer was. I have had reserved MACs for every PC in the network other than mine. Thank you for your answers 🙂
