vanilla supports 64 players, thus should support a scoreboard with that many players. has nothing to do with mods.
Avatar
@Zatline if your opinion is that vanilla tw will always stick to 16 players, why do you care what the 64p UI looks like? That scoreboard has been around for 7 years now, it's legible (atleast as legible as the chat as the fontsize never goes smaller then the chat), it allows you to see all the information without breaking the flow of the game and that's the only thing needed from a scoreboard

I guess we are just talking to a brick wall at this point. So I guess we can implrment a paged one to say that vanilla actually supports 64p. Not like anyone playing on an actual 64p server will ever use the vanilla client
Avatar
dune should play with ddnet client for a week to make up a good opinion
Avatar
well yes tw supports 64 players so yes therefor it should allow an option to see all the players if there are 64 players ... but not all at once!
Avatar
"it's not about making the game more suitable for some specific non-vanilla mode" why not? vanilla is boring and player count confirms this
08:27
it should be all at once lol
Avatar
vanilla isn’t boring it’s just high skill cap and hard to get going
Avatar
yeah sure
08:34
🙂
Avatar
I prefer playing vanilla than some say ddrace all down to personal preference
Avatar
yeah but it doesnt matter what u prefer, the total count supports more mods than vanilla
08:37
vanilla = 10, modded = (131 - 10) = 121
08:37
the diference is there :)
08:37
and this is just for 0.7
08:38
on 0.6 there is 9 players in vanilla and 310 in modded
08:38
but u should continue focusing on the boring vanilla
08:38
🥱
Avatar
that players migrate towards mods has always been the case only back in the days there were many different mods and player were more equaly distributed and there was no 64 players at all ... it's only now that DDrace is left as the one dominant mod that happens to use 64 players (for what reason even? it's not like the type is dependend to have 64 players anyway) (edited)
08:40
u actually have 0 idea of ddrace
08:40
"that players migrate towards mods" its always been the case due to vanilla being boring after 10 mins
08:40
you just confirmed my statement
08:41
ddrace is a coop mod btw, you can finish maps with 20 ppl on your team
08:41
or more
08:41
it also improves way more the social aspect of the game
Avatar
a spamed chat of 64 players talking sure that must be wonderfull I imagine
Avatar
as i said you have 0 idea xD
Avatar
@Zatline how about you don't make assumptions about things you have no way of knowing? It's not that abnormal to play with around 30 people in the larger maps on ddrace. Server sizes grew with user demand not because the developers were having a pissing contest
09:46
As I said we should just implement a paged one for vanilla client as there is no point discussing this when everyone is so hellbent on their opinion
09:47
We will release a client with the proper featureset in due time anyway and @ChillerDragon already has one that people can use for the time being

@Learath2 Not only @ChillerDragon also @fokkonaut with his F-Client ;)
Avatar
@Learath2 I feel like repeating myself a lot, but I'm personally happy with any scoreboard that is robust (does not break in rare scenarios), evolutive (appropriately changes size for small servers, like the current one does) and readable. Pages is the least headache way for me, but if people feel like going through the UI mess to make that work with 32 or 64p, that's all good by me
Avatar
@jxsl13 note: vanilla supports 64 clients, with 16 players and rest spectators thus the 16 player scoreboard limit
Avatar
The scoreboard was never meant to stay 16players @Assa
Avatar
now this calls for an update 😄
11:06
in the assa client i implemented a scrollable scoreboard, it was just the default scoreboard which more players and you could scroll the ui up and down
Avatar
Trafalgar Law 2020-04-05 11:07:12Z
You have a client ?
Avatar
I had in 0.6
11:08
I think the scoreboard just has to show all the playernames in the server and you need to switch between pages, maybe with pageup, pagedown, pos1 and end?
Avatar
@Dune you find yourself in the same argument because we fundamentally seem to disagree on what it means for a UI to be "readable". We say it's plenty legible, you say it's not, rinse and repeat.
Avatar
you say it's not
where?
13:21
did you miss my last reply?
Avatar
Oh, I actually did
13:28
Or rather didn't read it quite that well.
13:29
Either way, the vanilla lot doesnt exactly seem to enjoy the large scoreboard so we should probably implement something paged for them
Avatar
@Learath2 As long as it is evolutive (looks similarly to what we have now on small player count), it wouldn't be an issue for the "vanilla lot", as they play on <16p servers
Avatar
Well that's how it's implemented on both chiller and fokkonaut's clients
Avatar
I'm dubious on how they fare with team games though (especially since teams can be imbalanced right?). I think all ddrace/city game modes are not team modes, so the problem doesn't exist.
13:34
So I'll tell you honestly, if I were to implement it myself, I would go with pages because I feel like it would be a brainfuck to try to make it work properly in all situations. If someone is willing to go through that brainfuck, that's fine by me
Avatar
well idk of any 64p teamgames where such a heavy imbalance should be allowed, but we could fall back to a paged scoreboard for teamgames
Avatar
team gamemodes have 16 slots only, so 8 on each side. nobys server allows 32 players, but i think only 16 ingame too, no problem there
Avatar
I think the point is that we want a scoreboard that can handle every situation
Avatar
i think the ddnet scoreboard can handle 32p team mode
15:01
so can the F-Client one
15:01
I think
