Yes, I'm using vanilla. And what do you mean by "stick"?

you put an autoexec.cfg, containing the server configuration, file in the same folder as your teeworlds_srv. open a terminal. navigate to that folder and execute ./teeworlds_srvto start the server

what does the terminal output say?

on windows also double clicking on the teeworlds_srv.exe should work, if there is a config file in the same folder. if not, it would still start a server with default values.
