I'm a bit lost though. Do I download the sourcecode from github? I'd like to setup my own little server for offline/backup purposes.

In this case there is a release from 2011 on the zcatch github page. I downloaded the .zip file. However there is no server.exe file to be found. Only folders with the game data. Do I have to copy over the server.exe from the original game?
for the moment I only want to store a local copy of the game which allows me to play an infinite grenade mode and if needed share the game with friends and play that gamemode together

Also is there an option to disable showing the score overview when joining the server? With zcatch it currently shows it for quite a long time before being able to play.
If I only put the server.exe files with a config.cfg and a shortcut to start the server into an extra server, it won't start
is there anything else that the server file needs in order to run? at the moment I have multiple copies of the game with a modified server file each
or is that required to be this way?

Aaand an additonal question: What could be the reason why connecting to a server that should be from the same country as me takes a very long time and seems not to work?

@Vlaeko it's probably a server issue, there are other issues than locations

and the only way to play maps locally is to... start a server locally. (that can be as simple as starting the teeworlds_srv and entering the f2 console)
oh cool @Dune with this teeworlds pack I was able to join that race server, before that I tried joining with the vanilla client :D
is it possible to setup my own local race server? do I use this teeworlds pack for that purpose?
