Imo its better to keep two-way bridge for users with a certain role
12:58
Instead of disabling transition of messages to irc completely
Avatar
@Nibiru I'm using https://github.com/42wim/matterbridge, I don't think it has support for that yet. you could create a feature request
13:15
the other method would be not allowing anyone to speak in this channel unless they have a certain role
13:15
not sure how well this would be received though
13:15
opinions?
Avatar
Hm, maybe making separate channel for irclink bot that will be read-only for all by default and users with some special role can also write there should work well
13:21
Its gonna be even less confusing than bridging only selected users' messages from the main channel (edited)
Avatar
I don't like the prospect of having two channels in here. mhh...

[teeworlds] <heinrich5991> test…
Avatar
okay
13:36
if you want to send messages to IRC, contact me
Avatar
[quakenet] <heinrich5991> okay, now a whitelist of users will be able to send messages to IRC
13:37
[quakenet] <heinrich5991> let's hope that this will work out better
Avatar
[quakenet] <minus> sounds pointless
13:38
[quakenet] <heinrich5991> people not using IRC clients - people who wnat to have a backlog but don't have a bouncer
Avatar
Not really pointless bcs if someone wants to spam irc then he will join the channel in irc and spam there but those who want ask devs about sth really important should spend some time joining irc directly
Avatar
@cin @ChillerDragon @Nibiru I guess you want to?
Avatar
Yep, i guess...
Avatar
[quakenet] <minus> my point stands :D
13:45
[quakenet] <pinkieval> I think I'll host a public instance of IRCAnywhere, to finally end that argument against IRC
13:46
[quakenet] <heinrich5991> which argument? what is IRCanywhere?
13:46
[quakenet] <pinkieval> IRCAnywhere is a web client with a backlog
13:46
[quakenet] <heinrich5991> ah
13:47
[teeworlds] <Nibiru> Well the quakenet's web client does the same job except the backlog
13:49
[quakenet] <pinkieval> uh
13:49
[quakenet] <pinkieval> last commit in 2015
13:50
[quakenet] <rand> "except backlog"
13:51
[quakenet] <rand> backlog is life
13:52
[quakenet] <pinkieval> ooor you could use Mattermost instead of Discord
13:53
[quakenet] <heinrich5991> what's mattermost?
13:53
[quakenet] <pinkieval> an open source clone of Discord
13:53
[quakenet] <pinkieval> and it's way more usable
13:53
[teeworlds] <Nibiru> Of slack*
13:53
[quakenet] <heinrich5991> rocketchat was open source of slack IIRC
13:53
[quakenet] <pinkieval> yeah
13:54
[quakenet] <pinkieval> I never quite understood the difference between Slack and Discord, actually
13:54
[quakenet] <heinrich5991> I don't know slack
13:54
[quakenet] <pinkieval> except that Discord is litterally more than 100 times slower than my IRC client, while Slack is only twice slower
13:55
[teeworlds] <Nibiru> Slack has no voice and you have to register an account on each of rooms
13:56
[quakenet] <heinrich5991> discord is one of these "let's run a web browser to display our program"
13:56
[quakenet] <heinrich5991> :(
13:56
[quakenet] <minus> Mattermost is under the gitlab umbrella and it's not that great
13:56
[quakenet] <pinkieval> heinrich5991: I think running my IRC client on a Linux running in the web browser would be faster than Discord
13:57
[quakenet] <minus> Most certainly
13:59
[quakenet] <pinkieval> let's try
14:01
[quakenet] <deen> pinkieval: sounds like a good case for https://bellard.org/jslinux/
14:01
[quakenet] <rand> xD
14:02
[quakenet] <pinkieval> deen: that's exactly what I'm using right now
14:08
[quakenet] <deen> pinkieval: Thank you for subscribing to Fabrice Bellard facts
14:08
[quakenet] <deen> When you start writing a C compiler, add cross-compiling, turn that into a recompiler, use it as a virtual machine and you end up with qemu.
14:08
[quakenet] <deen> JSLinux started with code written in JS, converted that to C, and then compiled into JS again using emscripten.
14:11
[quakenet] <pinkieval> you forgot ffmpeg
14:13
[quakenet] <deen> Actually before tcc there was obfuscated tcc: https://bellard.org/otcc/otcc.c
14:16
[quakenet] <pinkieval> damn, so many packages I have to install
14:17
[quakenet] <pinkieval> lazy
14:17
[quakenet] <deen> haha, you should use a smaller irc client: https://tools.suckless.org/ii/
14:17
[quakenet] <deen> or even https://tools.suckless.org/sic/
14:17
[quakenet] <pinkieval> let's not be unreasonable
14:23
[quakenet] <heinrich5991> pinkieval: https://thelounge.github.io/ that's still in development
