Hello! I want to ask some advice on movement in KoG
I want to train to move better in KoG gamemode. I tried to look for information on the topic online but didn't find much. Then i tried to look for good players in game and ask them for advice. Most common was to play maps that are on the harder side for your playing strength to get better. So i figured maybe i can spectate good players to pick up on some things.
When i think about it, staying in the air consistently sounds like the base skill. So maybe i should begin with practicing that to the point i basically never fall when howering on the same spot? Because i do fall after awile.
So my question is, what are the tips you would give for getting better at movement and tee control? What and how should i train? I would like to hear any thoughts and advice. Thank you!
There are some great main maps that are "tunnel" maps. They stick to 2-4 tile wide almost the entire map. I guess "OutOfTheSky" could be an example. These maps force you to be able to maintain your position with "taps" on a/d key while hooking at a steep angle - Different from the Swing motions usually done in DDRace.
What you could do to practise this "hovering technique" is just go to any map with a flat roof, pick a certain distance away from the roof and try to stay in that exact distance (example 3-4 tiles away from the roof). You don't have to move forward or backwards, just practise being completely "still" mid air. You will have to hook at an angle and you will have to counter-act that hook with your A/D presses.
Once you've gotten that down a bit, try switching around with "Hooking Left + Pressing Right" to "Hooking Right + Pressing Left" alternating every 5 or so hooks and still, keeping the goal of not getting closer to the wall, nor moving horizontally.
Once that's done you can start mixing in moving with it as well, play around and get a feel for how A/D presses in the opposite/same direction affects your movement/speed. Also mix around with hooking angle, how far away from your Tee the hook connects and for how long you maintain the hook before release and/or re-hooking.
This positioning skill is baseline for A LOT of the techniques and skills you'll need for the maps above MAIN level. Long 2 tiles, 1 tiles etc. rely on your positioning before entering the area, rather than your control in the area (most of the time).
This will only stop being relative in the hardest of maps (High INS to EXT) when the level of raw skill and control is skyrocketing
