DDoS protection isnt something easy. Its the same like bot detection.
You need a lot of knowledge and you want to avoid false-positives ( if not, then something like OVH happens )

They just generate an enormous amount of packets to fill up our bandwidth. Like millions of pps.
Thats pretty cheap to do if you fill it with random data
