I am having issues with the moderate map Wrong Forest. Both tees start at the top left in the screenshot and need to land on top of each other in the pit. But the issue is that if I just run into the freeze I get a random slowdown 50% of the time, landing in the little bucket right below where the freeze starts, as it happened in the screenshot. Does anyone know why this happens and how I can get consistent speed? This is super frustrating, having to do a dice roll after 5 minutes for each try. I have done it like 4 times already and was always unlucky

The slowdown depends on your x coord, so if you didnt slowdown from some position then you wouldnt the second time as well Thats why the strat is to use a wall to line up a good coord

Yeah it does, something with the tick that you hit the freeze IIRC

Because it makes you enter the freeze differently, at some coords you enter it a bit early

I tried it in practice mode with /lasttp and it was consistent, this makes sense now

Some setups won't work if you move them a few tiles to the left/right, super annoying to map monkalaugh

It's just tick alignment. If you start from the wrong position you will be frozen when you are still on the edge and slow down. If you are at the correct position then you will skip the tick where you are frozen on the edge

hello, my question is more of a developer question, but its not directly related to the development of ddnet so I didn't want to be destroyed. How does ddnet handle unknown cleints? for example, if you just took a basic ddnet cleint, but changed the name of it (where it matters) so that the server sees some random ahhh cleint, what does it do? Are all cleints allowed? How are bot cleints getting in if the server can see what cleint it is? Thanks

you send some data to the server when you join, which you can access as the owner or mods with access to the status command, such as the IP-address and client version. Custom clients are allowed, wouldnt make sense to ban them while the game is open source anyway. the problem with that is, that even a bot client can mindlessly control what it gives us, e.g fake other clients or send wrong client versions (edited)
