that's what binding something to +toggle cl_showchat 2 0 should do (edited)

Just in case you're confused, that command won't immediately hide chat, it'll only hide once you press and release the key once (edited)

If you don't want the large chat view when you hold the key, use 1 instead of 2

but when I press it after binding that to the key I want pressing it doesn't show

hello, i have an issue with lags, i restarted everything in ddnet i deleted all the files and reinstall ddnet on steam about 5 mins ago.
