Anyone feel free to tell an admin you want to host a tournament on ddnet with ddnet maps/tournament maps and pay money for a price pool.
Stepfunn did that IIRC
We don't even collect more than is needed to run the servers. This project in general isn't very capitalism coded at all. Just the bare minimum interaction required with money

every time you die or reset after like 10+ minutes you spawn in a theatre room with a big screen (which is the ad). you can jump around, use weapons, and there might be a wooden crate that you can fling around. skipping is a tele that activates after 10 seconds or so

@MilkeeyCat i wanted an answer if there are тонометр on money , and you made a sort of circus
Don't take them too seriously. Monetization has become a sort of meme over the years in this community. So it always turns into jokes

How about fng, but every laser shot costs 10 cents?

This is an ooold game, from a time when esports wasn't a thing and tournaments were just done so people can brag about being the best.
So usually we just have tournaments either to celebrate an occasion or to highlight a map that is "exceptional" in some way
We meet the donation goal every year, and that covers all the costs. Maybe we can add a small banner ad on the website one day if we start coming short

the most of players just play the game .The good skins are very priceful
Well the skins and the gambling obviously make Valve more than enough money to keep cs running. They also own Steam so all the marketplace cuts go to them too, so community market trading of skins also make them money.
Steam/Valve doesn't pay you anything for a free game being published on there. You have to add some sort of microtransaction if you want to make money from a free game.

Honestly impressive it all survived this long. We are having a little bit of a lack of donated developer time nowadays, but it will hopefully get better soon when I get more free time

Yeah, but we also own the largest network of servers, so we can kinda enforce it for our clients and our servers. But yeah people could just mod the client to get the hats and stuff
Another reason not to collect more money is that we can't possibly collect enough to fund a full time developer. So anything we collect and distribute is likely not going to result in more developer time being available

Eh, we live in a capitalist society. Needing money is a very real thing. We are all just lucky enough that none of the core developers need money from this avenue

Would it be better to just leave donations unlocked? And just make sure people know that the server is funded for the year and it would just be for next year

Most are, the game is veeery lightweight. If there wasn't ddos we wouldn't need any of the more expensive servers. We waste all the bandwidth and the ram and stuff on the bigger ones
https://github.com/ddnet/ddnet/issues you can click green Create issue button and write it there or you can write a list of inconsistencies and I could fix them
