That's not possible anymore on newer Android versions without root or Shizuku. Complain to Google. If you still have a phone with an SD card you might be able to move the app files to the SD card, then remove the SD card and change the contents with another device. (edited)

Probably easier to use a custom server for your skins instead

I assume you also need a file manager that supports root

Did the solution work for you? (i.e. uninstall the stock "Files" app)

I tried launching the old Files with an activity launcher and it looks like it can just read the data folder and everything in it without root (edited)

haven't tried yet but i think uninstalling files app is gonna break something

You should be able to reactivate it again

And as far as I understand it your system contains another hidden/internal Files app will get used if you don't have the restricted Files app (edited)

youre supposed to use dummy copy and not deep fly or whatever its called
