Depending on the style of map you want to play, you need to grasp mechanics and techniques you can either get from certain moderate maps similar to that style, or by watching and trying out what others are doing.

most brutal drag maps are tight hooks, require decent aim or timing, require you to know techniques like hook flying, (or flying in general) dragging, Gores, etc. All of these things you gain over time by playing more. A good moderate map that introduces you to brutal mechanics without being to faily is the baby aim series by Aoe.
T0 maps, especially the ones that are played the most ATM (bitd, stronghold, p9) are actually not fit for a new brutal player IMO. (edited)
