I have the latest version of drivers, how can I fix this? frequent freezes the game is justified (by connection problems) the disks all have a reserve capacity the game is on NVME

Do you have many high resolution skins? If so try removing some and see if it helps

This might be that you are barely at the limit and then someone with a new skin that gets downloaded joins and overloads your vram

Why are solo maps not categorized by difficulty btw?

Novice, moderate, brutal, insane are 4 tiers, here is the list of solo maps: https://github.com/ddnet/ddnet-maps/tree/master/types/solo/maps So we do have enough maps. From my bad estimated counting that are at least 200 maps, more like 400 (edited)
