The maps have a difficulty rating ranging from 1 star(*) to 5 stars(*****). Try to play the ones with 1* first. If the server is empty you can navigate to the vote menu, vote for novice and then choose random novice map with the number ‘1’ as reason. You will get a random 1* novice map. (edited)

you can also try newer maps. Those are usually easier than old ones. But yes, try first the easier ones (1-3 stars).
