it also happens sometimes on win7 when the game doesn't have the focus at start, like if you also click the file explorer after launching ddnet(edited)
My crosshair darkened somehow, don't know what caused it, fixed when I restarted my client. Was trying out new gameskins and noticed the gameskin I used went from a white crosshair to dark grey, persisted when swapping between assets
