Biggest problem is usually stops. If the stop spacing is too tight, your train will spend most of it's time decelerating and accelerating. Not close to top speed

I think this is how they do arabic. Stretching and bending glyphs to connect them together. I can imagine something like this working for most things. But I imagine reducing the characters to glyhps is a herculean task. Let alone defining deformations for them. And at the end you probably end up with a solution where you can't stylize some characters properly

i think it is just ligatures, the combined glyph also has their own unicode. that's how arabic teeworlds client worked. they just used the combined unicode
