Yeah, mostly a Microsoft (Sequel) vs Linux (S.Q.L.) difference. I switched to Sequel at my first job 😄 It also fits well in my mind with the QUEL language (https://www.holistics.io/blog/quel-vs-sql/) that should have won out instead

hello, is the 255 telelimit only in the map editor or is it the real limit? what would for example happen if you would open a map with binary editor and change tele to something above 255. or customize the map editor to allow higher numbers?

Iirc it's a real limit. We use a single byte for the teleno. But I'll have to confirm later

The CGameControllerDDRace::HandleCharacterTiles function can kill the tee if the conditions for starting the race are not satisfied when touching a start tile. In this case, no further tiles should be handled in the CCharacter::HandleTiles function, else the effects of those tiles being handled may incorrectly be applied after the tee has respawned.

This was suggested a couple of times. Most likely susceptible to exploits, but it would certainly improve the user experience. Example: You're on a map with sv_max_team_size of 2. You're asked to demonstrate something, but the team in practice is already full, you’d have to create a new team with a dummy player instead.
