i am gathering as much third-party opinions as possible tho. cuz the only feedback i get is from company and family. i believe both would really love me to have this job.

but i do want to do stuff on my own since it already seems i'm carrying a whole team
Is there no one capable enough to replace you atleast for a while? If you like them perhaps offer to work part time for a while longer as they look for someone else with the same qualifications?

That would give you time to work on your own things and maybe get something going while not leaving them out to dry

maybe they just didnt know and thought it was easy for anyone to hop in

although to be fair the CEO only knew about it last week
19:07
i warned HR first so she could as least have an eye for looking out. I told both of my lead two weeks after cuz i didnt want them to bother me while we are preparing to launch a game
Here is what I would do. I would get a meeting with the ceo. Tell him that I really want to try doing something on my own and my mind is set on that. If I like them I would offer to stay on for a while longer on a part time basis if they promise to start looking for a real replacement

Anyway, that's all the advice I can offer you sadly. Be firm, convince them that you will actually leave, offer to help transition with less workload if you feel like it
maybe I realized that I should leave a bit too late too. our producer didn't know how to take item screenshots, don't know how to edit audios. then my lead don't know how to implement server-side openid authentications even tho they are in the backend "for years". then our actual backend dev copied my code into chatgpt to translate it from javascript and java, pasted them into production environment then asked me why my code didn't work.

unless it is something obviously stackoverflowable tho. i just write tests to make sure that works since otherwise i would just copy a piece of algorithm anyway.
I don't even like using crates/libraries unless I can imagine exactly how it would be implemented. If I can't imagine myself writing it, I'll understand the entire library first(edited)

I'm not saying everyone has to be like that. But that's what I owe my vast library of useless low level knowledge
19:29
I'll also almost never refer to stackoverflow for something. First destination is always the language spec. Just browsing through those you gather so much knowledge
If the spec doesn't have what I need, next is the standard library. I'll look through it's docs way before I look at stackoverflow. If I do end up there I will implement line by line what I see and backreference it to the spec or the stdlib it uses
It's just not being worried about finances. Idk how he does it, maybe he is rich from some other source, but this sort of single person development really requires you to be financially stable
If the game isn't financially successful you should be able to eat that up. Which is quite unfair, but that is how it is

from a business standpoint you cant spend more effort than you expect to make back. so im making thing that i give zero fucks about so if it worked out it is just net profit
i have only one good idea that i think worth persuing after 18 years
19:57
its in my notes and i been trying to make that happen every now and then, but the scope is just too out of reach unless i really just decide to spend 8 years on that with nothing.
19:58
even then the idea is not fully fleshed out cuz i have to start making it to feel out the detail.
I meant mostly the design of the world inwhich it takes place. For a parkour type game to be fun you need it to take in place in a pretty immersive world that is fairly detailed so there are things to climb
