There is no hard limit, make it as small as possible, as large as necessary

From server perspective I mostly care about the layers being small, graphics don't matter. Clients could go out of memory though

When you say "layers being small" what exactly you mean? the layers from the editor? like group & layers? (edited)

I tried 20 1300² layers and 20 200² layers (with tiles on the border to fill + clipping for the later) and it was a lot smoother and was lighter

Let's say I have a 1300² tile layer with a few doodads a bit everywhere, is it better to keep it that way or create multiple small 100² layers for each part I want to design (edited)

more objects require more heavy load on rendering

not sure about that, we'd have to ask @Jupstar ✪ or @Patiga maybe. from a map size perspective, 100² layers are preferable

this should make a big difference, the renderer doesn't rly care about layers with only a few tiles afaik

It's either I have let's say 10x1300² tile layers, or 10x10x200² tile layers (to "clip" each area with doodads associated to them). Is it better to have 1 big tile layer or many more small tile layers? (edited)

@heinrich5991 @Patiga @Cellegen I tried to change the layers (it was painful) despite the number of layers I added (it increased the file size lightly), the memory use of my client dropped from 1.5Gb to 0.8Gb (edited)
