Sounds unlikely, except for minimal distros like gentoo. Most distros come with a fat kernel with most common wifi drivers in there already

And the rest you get as modules in the package manager. I've really only had to compile any driver on gentoo

it was parrot OS where the only internet access was a wifi stick, later one I think I found another simpler way, that's why i said skill issue but at the point of researching of how to get that damn thing running, it seemed like the only way ^^
