it refreshes the game as much as possible

you can limit that with gfx_refresh_rate 500 for instance, or use gfx_vsync 1 (edited)

If you are using DDNet client and you make sure to follor Chairn's options, then it shouldn't be 100% of your GPU usage.

However if you are using a different client, maybe one we are not familiar with it (no need to name it), then maybe consider not using them.
