Why? Only cause they earn money?
I pretty much prefer their UI and the puzzles over lichess ones.
Plus they got pretty decent bots of different elos that you can play against.
Btw I'm not paying a cent to them so I only enjoy the few free puzzles you get every day.
Haven't used lichess that much tho. So it's a biased opinion
propietary software for one, and as a company, they make strategic decisions to lower the visibility of lichess a open source software that respects user freedoms
07:45
also the elo in chess is also meaningless by defaults comment
07:45
the elo is significative when compared within users from the same platform
07:45
u think the GM with 3000 elo on chess.com is real? lmfao

its not about paying them or not for me, its about user freedom regarding software, as far as im concerned, i wouldnt care if lichess was for-profit but their software used a fsf license
07:54
but they are even better and are a non-profit, which gives u some assurance that they wont go evil
07:55
they can go evil tho but i doubt, look at "open" ai
07:55
but its also cuz their mindset that lichess is so famous
07:56
"free chess for anyone, forever"
07:56
nothing feels better than this for a true chess fan, sharing their passion

Bro be like: proprietary software is unusable, why don't you use open source analog!
What he uses: Discord, GitHub, Steam, Reddit and plays Dota (most unprofitable game ever)
What he could use: Matix/IRC, GitLab, itch.io/Lutris, Lemmy and don't play at all cuz there are no open source alternatives to dota
I had not very good experience with lichess puzzles, as i understood it takes random games and suggests you to make same moves, anyway sometimes those moves are clearly not the best in the situation and you cant even report puzzle (iirc)
Idk, I just played the puzzles a bit and the elo was ???
I think I had like 19XX elo and getting puzzles that weren't that hard... plus seems random.
Either that or I did something wrong
11:42
The only reason I'm playing chess rn is only for bots anyways. And on lichess idk what I'm playing against.
Wtf is stockfish level 1-8(edited)

dota is above other games cuz it runs natively on linux
12:05
ddnet is the best tho
12:05
native linux, focused linux dev, and open source
12:05
windows support is an afterthought(edited)

apparently other insurance companies do it too
"
>Black box car insurance is a type of telematics policy that involves your insurer having a device installed in your car that can monitor your driving habits.
"
Well anyway, idk how it was started with mentioning ddnet is not verified as a gaming channel, which "supposedly" can result in having less illegal activity?
nothing. but I never said it would change anything.
14:18
i only mentioned it because stuff like that is the reason this server isn't official
14:19
so you can't blame the playerbase count for it to get rejected, but the discord moderators not doing their job (which is ok, they do it voluntarily), and the #off-topic group.(edited)
i sat and wondered for 20 min, why do people do more than bare minimum to maintain their comfort, and why do people react differently to the same tasks, and i have no answers for those questions
14:46
because answer to first would be, because they do it, out of sheer interest in topic or whatever, but it doesnt explain why it brings them joy
14:49
going to continue that, but if somone has answer, please drop it
