1. They don't work the same and 2. ddnet:// wasn't a thing until recently (edited)

The difference between the two: The non steam URL will open a new client instance for every URL you click and the steam one will connect you to the server immediately without opening another instance if one already exists

What is your hardware. Laptop? It's generally safe. It will simply continue with opengl. But it could indicate that you are missing a driver for your igpu or GPU

It's really better if u stay in the limits of your hardware. It guarantees good performance and no random crashes if the driver isn't well written for such cases

I updated the game. It's a bit weird that you run out of VRAM so quickly without custom assets. If nothing else works, you can switch to OpenGL again, there is an option during launch in Steam now

@deen I had an opengl and vulkan problem and it was fixed as soon as I updated the driver, I offered a solution in case there was a solution, I apologize if I did something wrong

Well the error happens when a memory application failed. So at that point your 8gb vram are used somehow

do i have to always open steam and choose opengl way? cause i normaly right click on the taskbar and choose ddnet on steam to quick launch

that should work, but if you want to be sure then check your settings_ddnet.cfg and make sure gfx_backend is on "OpenGL"
