The maps are downloaded when you join a server but i don't know where, you can search in the game files. Either way connect on a server, put the map, open editor (Ctrl + shift + E), on the top left click load current map and you can save it

had the same yesterday, but it was only on back in the days 3 map, it has been fixed by itself, took me few tries to join, idk what was that

the only thing you could maybe do is remove all skins/assets/etc to reduce gpu load, it worked for me when i had that issue but i also had high res assets so it took extra gpu
