hi, im wondering what other mappers think about the smooth zoom in the editor

in my opinion, it makes things a little less concise and feels a bit weird

it looks well ingame, but in the editor i generally care more about efficiency instead of looks so it doesn't work well for me

well you can control it with cl_smooth_zoom_time so it's not forced i guess, but the same config setting is used in-game so you have to change it each time

I use external editors to make maps (mostly maps for other modes), but zoom in editor sounds terrifying, animations and stuff is cool, but mian goal is to make map efficient and fast, not wait for zoom animation to end, even if its like 0.3s

i think the reason it feels so wonky is because it's paired with the scaled zoom speeds (the thing where your zoom is stronger at low levels and weaker at high levels) (edited)

the smooth zoom in-game works nicely because it doesnt actually change the angle you're aiming at

but in editor it'll change the block your mouse is over during zoom

its probably just a map bug, there might not be anything you can do about it
