Well it does give you a certain amount of power over the direction of development. But the original ddos wars werent about that. These colorful individuals were first of all young, so they felt it made them cooler. Secondly many of these excellent people sold VIP accounts with perks on their servers. More players = more money

Second one is the reason they killed ddwar which we hosted completely free and without silly VIP perks. More people playing on ddwar meant less people willing to pay VIP on their now less popular servers

Atleast ddwar got efficiently gutted so the development effort wasnt all lost. Block servers inherited loltext and all ddrace servers inherited the 64p patch

Now that we have somewhat ddos protection, there should be an instance above hosters to prevent ddos or for conflict resolution. It is everyones right to host a server and it is also everyones right to choose what servers to play on. Id make sense to leave some maps exlusive to some servers (v3 on blockworlds, pepe on exec etc). The competition for players would let the game stay alive. Hosters could host events to atrackt players etc

Everyone is free to host whatever they want

I don't think anyone in the community wants your boy back hosting servers after he ruined the game for months for everyone
