It looks like with @deen we didn't rly understood each other in that topic. I wanted to balance all ddmax map to make them fit other ddnet servers. Many of maps yes needed a nerf but not all. Sorry to everyone who lost points for those more demanding ddmax maps. I take full blame for it. Feel free to insult me for that

Yet just to make it clear I still think that in the current form points are totaly useless and they don't "tell" anything to anyone(if a player with more points is rly good or bad). That was my statement from when ddnet was created and yet so far it sadly looks like I was right that this was not a good idea(current form). I will have more talks with ddnet staff about ddmax categories to make them fit more ddnet and hopefully I will have more talks with them to maybe balance all ddnet maps.

DDracemaX 2.0 was born, using the new updated DDRace mod, and the new 0.6 version of Teeworlds. Special patches and bugfixes to the new DDRace mod were made by eeeee and Fisted, specifically for DDRacemaX.

DDracemaX was a name of the server but not long after became a name of ddrace mod.

whenever there's a "new" oldschool map, I just assume it's because they just found another old one that's currently not on the ddnet servers. I don't think there's a perfect archive of old maps

there were servers like DDracemaX.classic (maps that used only tiny bit of teleports - full idea was about freeze, example : skynets, o_O, hellgates) DDracemaX.next (maps that were full with teleports - main idea was to try the part over and over again, example : pale, purple panic, 0 Kbeeer S) cool sounding name - that depends on players taste, we rather wanted to show with it that its time for a change in ddrace community and to bring back life dying mod also it was a name to show that maps rly don't need to look like koule (not that those maps are bad but most of the maps back then wanted to look like koule series map).

Before ddmax.next existed and before any of this kind of maps started to show I knew they will be taking the lead so i tried to kill it before it would start ^^ I wanted to limit the amount of teleports a mapper could use in his/her map. I didn't want that limit to be a rule on server but just wanted it to be limited in editor itself. Nobody listened back then and shit gone loose. Now old (real) ddrace is dead because of that

It was a self spinning wheel. Mappers wanted to create this kind of maps and players wanted to play this kind of maps and because server was for players then it didnt matter if i was the leader/boss etc of ddmax. I just had to listen to what players and mappers wanted. Everything I ever done was for players ^^ From the start I made a rule that it didn't matter if I will like the map or not. The most important was if the players will like it. So we released almost everything and we were watching what kind of maps community likes. So some style of maps died very quickly and other were being made over and over.

This is not like if you don't like a category of maps then you should nerf it, because many players find really boring maps like barren, and not for that we are now gonna give 10 pts for barren. Actually a ddmax map allows you to develop patience, intelligence, and skills that you don't learn on other maps, and its fair to give an appropriate amount of points. Please @deen and whoever is involved in this change, rethink this decision.

yeah that is a huge thing. many new players will just suck the juicy teat of the ddnet hive mind. just like what is happening now; all the new players don't give a fuck about ddmax. the original players, even if they dont care about ddmax, would still stand up for it. 15 points for a 5star ddmax is inconceivable! That's the same amount of points for a 5* moderate and we all know baby aim is nothing like a 5* ddmax map. I mean ask AOE, (the dude who made 5star mod maps), he would never compare his to that of a hard ddmax map. @heinrich5991 I think your points change is a great idea for the lower levels of the ddmax subgenre, however for the 5* maps should stay at the same amount of points

@sorgaxD please read what I wrote and what Deen wrote back. We will be looking into it but I doubt the change will happen any time soon. The goal will be to balance all ddmax maps to make them fit other ddnet categories. Maps like supernice, Adrenaline 3, HeartbeaT will have the same amount of points like their alrenatives on moderate/brutal side. However I don't think that Red Hell (besides the noob filter) is a hard map =] the same would go to HardcoreZ. Here also should be a question raised if ddnet official categories shouldn't be cleaned first with points to them match more equaly (older maps points with newer maps points).

the main problem i see are the 5* ddmax ratings, with maps like supernice, etc, other than that i think it just boils down to rerating individual maps

obviously bigger number feels better than smaller number, but tbh ddmax used to = free points. Those 2 and 3 star ddmax's were the easiest way to farm points if you wanted to. Deen said up above:

We can have more complex curves for ddmax maps now that we split them into multiple categories. But someone would have to rate all the maps between 1-5 stars again for that

So if someone or some group wants to volunteer for that, it'd be welcome and can balance ddmax map points better

I answered this before and race server's points intentionally don't reflect the difficulty of the maps, same for ddmax btw. so that there is more focus on newer ddnet maps

if you really care about points, looks like we're on our way to more accurate ddmax point values

like for example adrenaline 3 makes no sense because the 2 other maps in the series have more finishers, so unless adrenaline 3 is a lot different than the other 2 (to be fair, i havent played any of them), i think its weird to have the 3rd be worth almost half the points, while being seemingly the hardest one, going off of finishes atleast.

so you decided to implement a change that wasn't even ready yet? They should at least write an announcement saying this, because it was terrible, and a lot of people will keep coming back saying the same as me (a lot of players have lost a lot of points). And by the way, if you think that Red Hell is worth the same as a moderate 5*, you are clearly not eligible to rerate the maps.

I didn't implement it. I even didn't knew that this will be implemented so soon and in this way. Clearly deen just misunderstood me, happens. It's rly not that players lost their points forever on those harder maps. This will be fixed/balanced as soon as possible. About Red Hell that map rly isn't a hard map, yet I don't know what amount of points it will have. It all depends on alternative maps on ddnet official category side. The goal is to find similar maps with similar skill needed to finish it and check what amount of points they have on ddnet side. Then decide if the amount will be correct or not for ddmax map.

obviously it should be rewarded, i never said they shouldnt. my point is just that they are too rewarding, mainly for the easier side of ddmax. its not a perfect system at all but i think with some additional improvements it could become a lot better.
