when a mapres are under external, it means that the map will asume every player have this mapres in their pc so they dont need to download again, just load the mapres from their own pc not from the map file when playing that map
embedded is opposite of it, it means not everyone have it so just pack that mapres into the map file and the map file will become bigger because it include the mapres
when saying asume everyone have the mapres, its not only talking about ddnet client player, it does also need to consider other client like teeworlds, but you dont need to worry about this, when the mapres is also exist in other client, it will auto set it as external so no need to change anything about this
