Community Novice Rerates Map Name,Current Rating,Revised Rating 1,Rerated By 1,Notes 1,Revised Rating 2,Rerated By 2,Notes 2 Info: If a map seems to be a different difficulty level than its rating, post a revised rating here. Maps should have 2 rerates just to make sure we agree on the rerating....
20:52
i may just continue rerating but i wanted input first. if we're concerned that this criteria is making too many maps moderate, we should consider bumping maps that are not faily like Lavender Forest down to 4*
20:52
and reserve faily-but-not-moderate novice maps for 5* only
20:53
I just think if the modern 5* are SUPPOSED to be 5* we can't justify like half of the maps staying in novice. and i want the community to be aware of that in case it's an issue
20:53
we could also like, make certain novice maps less faily. which does not affect ranks at all but would at least help them stay novice
20:54
like adding tele to freeze faily parts
20:54
but i know editing old maps is like sacrilege to older players
20:56
for example, the thing that stands out to me the most is maps where there is a simple hook that if missed, nearly guarantees that the run is failed with 2 noobs (ie. hammer hit that no noobs would have the skill for or require some combination of save logic that only older players would possess) (edited)
20:56
I can make a list of these maps
20:58
my solution would be add beginner section with novice1-3 level maps and then spread out novice4-5 into novice 1-5
20:58
or like all the super easy maps into beginner and the more faily ones into novice
21:00
also length of map shouldnt determine difficulty
21:00
so stuff like geneque shouldnt be rated on that imo
21:00
some of these maps just feel like a novice map too, which is why i wouldnt want to shove too much into mod
Avatar
Little Forest, Blue Sapphire, Careless, Fluff, Future_Race, Kintergarten, MagiK, Pados series, Petrified, (arguably) Thor, Koule series, Skillz series, Killa 3
21:00
noobs can still make a mistake somewhere
Avatar
for example Camouflage while it has some tricky parts it just 'feels' like a novice to me
21:01
cause the parts are short
21:01
and not exactly faily
Avatar
yea but literally the first part has to be explained
21:01
to any noobs
21:01
ive played it enough with noobs to know
21:01
that's why i think i agree with you on the Beginner category
21:02
moving a lot of the actually good Novice maps there and keeping these not-quite-mod maps as is
21:02
but creates problems because.... points
21:02
no room for adjustment
21:03
we should at least consider bumping genequex to 5 because it has that one swing part and is long
21:03
i dont think it's "barely" harder than SSU
21:03
it feels like a 5* to me
21:03
i mean we have Sketch and Lav for 5* lol
21:04
hard maps in a brain way but not faily
21:04
well I guess Sketch is slightly faily if you're not paying attention (edited)
21:04
this is why we have lots of issues in Novice
21:04
we have reasonings for all kinds of placements and there is no unified criteria
21:04
even in the same era
21:05
i don't think there is a 2 star gap between SSU and LF especially if we're considering space for other maps like MagiK
21:05
And is Sketch hard in the same way that LF is hard? do we need more sophisticated criteria to resolve this?
21:06
I think it's easier to rate mod/brutal maps because the same kinds of things are objectively easy/hard but things that are easy/hard for noobs can differ wildly, with how much can/can't be in the maps
21:07
that's why I think length matters at least a little for novice. If a noob rq a 4* because it was 2 hours long, i can totally understand that
Avatar
we could always just remap points
Avatar
im down to maybe bump up mod points
21:07
or honestly it may need to be more points
21:07
like brutal
21:08
we just need room. or decimal points but i hate that idea
21:09
i think we should stop making long novice maps lol. especially if we want to keep new players
21:09
and to be fair, i think we have been doing that already
21:10
or in the case of Beginner maps, have more strict criteria of what makes something Beginner. none of those maps should cause players to quit, only put our best there and give new players an idea of the true game, not our influenced/actualized difficulty
Avatar
1-15 beginner novice mod
Avatar
interesting idea
21:13
i definitely think mod should have 2 step if possible
21:13
but idk
Avatar
community vote on beginner category would be nice
Avatar
yea cus i think even if a map is ez we should only put maps we really really want to show noobs. i know it's super biased but it might be better for the playerbase
21:17
er maybe that's just perma, and we put any map in beginner otherwise
Avatar
yeah i think the maps first introduced should be the best quality and most fun
21:19
ssu my first pick
21:20
actually i think it's a shame that the end is faily but it affects the map to have to add tele there
21:20
since Ravie loves not using layers for some reason
21:20
it is kinda clean to not use tele. and makes you think more about design
Avatar
whole map faily wym
21:23
and its cause tele in only one part is meh
Avatar
well i agree but i think in general he also doesnt like it
21:24
is the map really that faily (even if /hj some parts are i guess faily)
Avatar
what are "/hj some" parts
21:25
is that a new fly

@lio messi please do constructive feedback
