I think the pipeline/expectations from new players from Tutorial -> normal servers is a bit confusing still. "What are you meant to do? I didn't do the tutorial quickly, but I did see there was a timer. All these players are starting without me, am I supposed to wait for someone to play?" etc(edited)

idk i think ddnet can never be a modern gaming experience. maybe some people are drawn to something weird like it. we can never force normies to like ddnet

I would rather have new players quit because they saw limited success than to quit early because it was frustrating. We don't need to "prove" anything to agree about this.

Because ultimately, some of those players who were "on the fence" about trying a game like this might end up being good at it, but we're just losing these people for no reason, because we expect these sorts of people to just "figure it out"

i must say i dont have this ambition to get new player but i could not tell you exactly why i dont really care abut it. im pretty happy with the community rn especially compared to 2016
there are some fun mods to revive btw, such as battlefield mod, sport mods and even infcity too! infcity's fundamental gameplay is solid, but the design, the environment bro... ugh
