this is not how ddos works
imagine there are 1000 people in front of you, asking you for something at the same time
5 of them are real and have a legit request
even if you distribute the mass onto other your friends, you have no chance / strategy here
the only thing i can think of would be to like have some dedicated private servers that would still give ddnet ranks but even then i dont know if thats worth/would even work in the first place

realistically there is no good way to combat ddossers without having to spend all your life savings in a year for decent ddos protection

when you join a server, you connect to the server via a data packet that contains info about you etc.
a server has to respond to this data packet. DDos = millions of data packets to the server = overloaded.
just because you hide a server in the client doesn't mean it no longer exists...
the ddos is not 1 million bots that open ddnet client and try to connect to a server

under no ddos ddnet is very very gentle on the cpu and the network, you don't need a strong server at all

He is correct btw, hidden servers do work. The problem is when the server is hidden you need a trust circle, you only give people that you trust the ip

We don't do it because it's just very unfair. People that can't prove that they are trustworthy to me can't get in, so no new players
I have messaged another hosting site that is at maincubes in Frankfurt, they do custom firewalls too and support chat was promising. Lets see when I get an answer to my ticket.

can you implement something like "user agents" for a game? I heard it's the modern alternative to IP system etc
the reason I say it, I have read that IP banning is outdated / it has so many reasons why it's bad (multiple clients but same IP, vpn's etc). but I guess the alternatives (that aren't even that good) only exist for websites, that's what I missed(edited)
I think there aren't a lot of weapons that would either not be used, or would drastically change the game, so probably a slightly higher ranged melee weapon, which would make the shotgun more useful.
