I assume they want it to deal damage so you can't use it a bunch In Race mode, there are maps where grenades deal damage and you have to pick up hearts/shields to heal yourself, and other maps where you don't But that's not a thing in DDRace mode; besides, hearts and shields have been repurposed so there'd be no way to heal anyway
