Ya I spoke with greyfox over email. He mostly talked about his personal experience developing the ddrace update. I'm not sure I can use much of that for the timeline but he did give me a few names that are worth crediting. I reached out to 3da 35 days ago on discord and haven't gotten a response yet, RIP I guess :(. Forgot I've been idling on #quakenet for a month now meaning to /query NoxNebula there. I think a lot of the details I was hoping to find about the history of ddrace might just be lost with time, but Tsin did give me a ton of useful stuff -- years/months things were released, and even some release notes for the updated ddrace mod:
This mod was originally created by 3DA
Now it is maintained & re-coded by:
[Egypt]GreYFoX@GTi and [BlackTee]den
Others Helping on the code: heinrich5991, noother, LemonFace, fisted & Trust o_0 Aeeeh ?!
Documentation: Zeta-Hoernchen, Entities: Fisico
Coded in the past: 3DA and Fluxid
also in 0.5.2 DDRace was based on Racemod so thanks to Recemod team as well
and before that was based on [n]race so thanks to NoxNebula"
I guess in the end what I'm hoping this will look like is like, A bullet point for each of the main big progressions. [n]race, ddrace, ddmax1.0, that big ddrace update by greyfox, ddmax2.0 (that's all i know about, maybe there's more), and then some details beneath each one about what those maps were like, and what got added with each one. I wish there was video evidence of some of this old stuff existing. To someone like me who just joined the community at steam release, the whole game just seems like this massive happy accident with all these really deep mechanics that seem too perfect to be an accident. I saw deen say "every bug becomes a feature". Super curious to see how the state we're in now developed over the years, and as of right now I mostly just have a list of dates and names. Not exactly my vision but still stuff worth adding.

thanks for all the contacts too btw, definitely giving me some more optimism about this whole thing
