It's still the clean & simple solution to split up the actual program with everything we deliver, and your custom settings, downloaded maps etc

Why treat all your devices the same? You can consider your laptop a general purpose computing platform, but use your phone just as a phone. Otherwise you also can't drive cars, use kitchen machines, TVs, all other devices with CPUs, OSes etc

Well I do. But my categorization is much more sane imo. I treat them as connected or not connected. My kettle is not connected to the internet and thus has no way of getting any info about me to the outside thus it’s allowed to run whatever code it wants 😛
