You can put doner in any vessel, be it tortilla, pita or just on top of rice

how is doner spelled in turkish? @Learath2
15:03
it's döner in german
Avatar
Döner in turkish aswell, but in Turkish it would be pronounced with an er at the end, seems germans pronounce the -er as an a
Avatar
yea
15:18
some dialects pronounce -er as -er, but not where I live
15:19
it doesn't sound wrong to pronounce -er as -er though
Avatar
Do germans use trilled rs? That er was meant to be in IPA
15:22
(So the r is a voiced alveolar trill)
Avatar
only southern germans
15:23
northern germans can't produce that sound by default, and I can't 😦
Avatar
I guess you could maybe learn it? Idk turkish has so many sounds I never really had to learn another sound to pronounce something, so not sure if it’s possible to learn it
15:28
Singers can usually sing in languages they don’t know by imitating sounds, so seems plausible
Avatar
I tried learning it for a bit
15:28
it's non-obvious
15:29
I guess I shall try again sometime
15:29
singers are an interesting case, they apparently replace the german r with the rolling r, because you can't sing the german r
Avatar
Hm, which r do you use in your german dialect?

The voiced uvular fricative is a type of consonantal sound, used in some spoken languages. The symbol in the International Phonetic Alphabet that represents this sound is ⟨ʁ⟩, an inverted small uppercase letter ⟨ʀ⟩, or in broad transcription ⟨r⟩ if rhotic. This consonant is one of several collectively called guttural R when found in European lan...

This is one sound I can't do properly. I can imitate it with a softer alveolar one but if I try to do it correctly I sound like I'm choking
