@deen Maybe add a tile to the pit at the end of HDP_Obstaculos to prevent people from getting killed without finishing. (People fall out of the map and die) I know it's an oldschool map, but I feel like we should make an exception and prevent this from happening. We already prevent kill tiles from killing people in other maps, you don't really expect to die.

The stronghold maps also have this issue, though, only Stronghold 1 has the issue of not being able to react to it, there are hookables on the other 2 maps, though, you could argue it's unfair as well, since you're conditioned to not expect to die at the finish line everywhere else.

Should probably make it a rule in mapping in the future, if it isn't already.

@Skeith I don't have anything to do with map testing / changing existing maps. I would let the testers decide on that. But isn't it the intention of making the finish faily?

The problem with it is the fact that you fall out of the map and kill your team before everyone can finish, if using /lock ... I don't know how it affects single finishes outside of /lock, if the person still gets the finish even though they died

I don't see why oldschool can't be touched when it kills people at the very end of the map without warning, it's not a pleasant experience at all for people.. It's not like I failed the map, it just killed me because I'm in a team, I don't even remember if teams even existed back then lol

oldschool isnt meant to be a pleasant experience, its mainly to archive old maps for nostalgic reasons and for that they shouldnt be changed even if its minor

Sure, fixing skips is one thing, fixing things that ruin peoples overall experience should be handled differently

Adding a tile to prevent death at the bottom of this pit changes nothing about the gameplay, it just fixes the issue of kill tiles outside of map boundaries still killing you.

You technically made this change already to other oldschool maps by making kill tiles no longer kill you when you're teamed and passed a finish line. (edited)

Oldschool shouldn't give points if you have the approach of them only existing for archive reasons, they give points, so they're a part of ddnet, if a part of ddnet ruins the experience for players, it should be in your best interest to prevent that... Especially if it's a very minor change such as adding 1 tile outside of the actual play area.

Maybe make it to where hitting map boundaries doesn't kill your entire team (after hitting the finish line) and actually stores your finish for when other teammates hit the finish line. (edited)

Sounds like exploit central to implement, but solving this issue in other ways is your decision, I think it'd be best to just add a tile to prevent it from happening. tee_thinking

Oldschool maps aren't meant to be pleasant lol what a statement. Anyway I think there are some precedents where old maps were adjusted though. Like the ddnet version of nut fixed some skips the originals had

My frustrations aren't really with the map, more-so with the mechanic that prevents teamed tees from dying to kill tiles after hitting the finish line, this system doesn't work with the map boundary kill tiles. It's a problem that only complicates systems that exist now, people only played in team 0 back then and never experienced this. Changing something to compliment current systems the servers have should be a no brainer, it wouldn't affect the integrity of the map, and would make solving this issue a lot easier.

The request is to make the map work with /lock enabled. The map is fine otherwise, this isn't a problem just because it's an oldschool map, other oldschool maps work.

the ending of gen8 is simmiliar if you fail the last swing then whole team can die or you can just slide off

It's a unique problem that goes against multiple systems on the server, the two parts aren't even comparable, one is user error, the other is an error with the team mechanics.

If you reach the end of the map, nothing should stop you from finishing, you did the part correctly. Why should your team suffer for it?

If you do the part properly, you don't die on any other map. You fall into something that catches you and you wait for your other teammates to finish as well.

I'd say the behavior probably wasn't there when the map was made, hence it's something that ddnet added by introducing the teams and kill whole team if one person goes out of bounds

Yea, it's pretty obvious that an exception should be made for the whole "no changing oldschool maps" rule. It kills the team that's locked within literally 3 seconds the moment you touch the finish line

It should be as easy as just placing a metal tile at the very bottom of that pit, someone with basic knowledge of it could do it

Also, don't get me wrong, this was one of the maps people played a lot back in the day, fond memories. But the way /lock kills you at the end didn't seem like it had a place on ddnet at all.
