@deen I've found out some more things regarding the bug I mentioned earlier:
  • firstly the issue only seems to occur if the last screen clicked was my second monitor after I load the game up, this didn't used to be the case as I recall it happening pretty much everytime I loaded the game so its definitely been somewhat fixed
  • here is a better video demonstrating everything: https://youtu.be/QRhnP7HCi18
  • I did things much slower and took more time in this video as I knew there are black out moments in the video I think the bug is mostly actually fixed and I'll have to remember when launching DDNet not to click my other screen. Maybe a bug to watch out for in the future!

I can also confirm the following with other games when pressing my second screen just before launching:
  • Left 4 Dead & Team Fortress 2: game opens and during the menu selection phase I can move my mouse to either screen freely, after getting into game the mouse is locked into the game
  • Minion Masters: remains minimised until opened, then lags / crashes whilst presumably a server connection is established and then loads
  • Rocket League: remains minimised until opened, game continues to load whilst minimised (i.e. past intro logos) Therefore I can only conclude with DDNet it is because there is a window prior to opening the game that I've seen open (cmd line) which is the window brought into focus whilst the game opens, then DDNet is no longer the primary focused window? The odd thing is during the movement between both screens I can click into a DDNet server to actually get in game and it will work fine but as soon as my mouse goes onto the other screen it will minimise. It is almost like it is not locking the mouse to the game window upon a click of the mouse button. Hope this debugging helps - let me know if you want any more info if you plan to look into this

Final video I promise: https://youtu.be/CW-RqZKu9SQ this one shows me going into a game and having the dual screen minimise issue (edited)
Avatar
@Deleted User The above may also be useful to you since you mentioned you get the same issue as I do
Avatar
well appearently not, bcs i dont have dual monitors
12:40
i opened ddnet and the cursor didnt move at all
Avatar
Oh I have that too sometimes, I have to click before it begins to move
Avatar
yes
Avatar
I didn't even think that was a bug to be honest, just thought it was supposed to be like that 😅
Avatar
its only on windows tho
12:41
never had that on linux
Avatar
Weird - must be something to do with how its focusing the window
12:42
Stupid Windows... 🤣
Avatar
well deen probably asked if other games are affected in hope its a SDL game

With most of my Steam games (or games on my PC on Windows) when I open it the mouse is activate straight away so it seems to be a DDNet related issue... I'll try Teeworlds
12:45
With both games I can confirm if I open the game the mouse is active straight away, however with Teeworlds default client, if I clicked my second screen last it will not do the same issue where by I can move onto my second screen / minimise the game
12:46
So I dunno its weird 🤷‍♂️ 🤣 (edited)
12:46
@Deleted User To make the bug that you said happen (i.e. you need to click before you move the mouse), simply open DDNet then click anything before it opens fully, this will prevent you from moving the mouse until you click into the DDNet client window (edited)
12:48
OH and that also activates the dual screen bug too! So it happens if you click anywhere before the DDNet client has opened - it doesn't have to be the second screen which is clicked
12:50
Okay thats all the debugging info I have - I'll be quiet now so the devs can read it properly and maybe figure out a solution. Sorry for the amount of messages!!

@Deleted User I checked Team Fortress 2 (SDL game according to Wikipedia) which allowed me to go to both screens during the menu / game selection phase but once in game locked the mouse into that screen
Avatar
mh ok well maybe when you are ingame in teeworlds its also locked
13:02
(e.g. using keyboard to navigate, not mouse)
Avatar
Yeah the keyboard movement is locked but the mouse allows you to go to either screen, as can be seen from my video further up
13:03
Team Fortress 2 on the other hand locks the mouse into the game as well once you have loaded into the game (i.e. no longer on the menu screens), the cursor completely disappears and I can no longer move it onto my second screen (edited)
13:05
Maybe the solution is just to not have 2 screens 🤣
Avatar
i'd say sdl should maybe just try to grab the mouse earlier, maybe some timing issue, but dunno. Easiest would be if SDL just runs the same on all platforms, so that you have the same bug across all OS 😄
🤣 1
13:11
then its easier to fix 😄
👍 1
Avatar
If only @Deleted User a bug across all OSes... That'd be like asking all browsers to have the exact same functionality 😋
13:11
I couldn't agree more though - it is a shame when it is only 1 OS / harder to debug and fix :/
Avatar
yeah i mean its not impossible the code is wrong in the client, but most devs dont use windows xD
13:12
thats the actual problem
Avatar
Anyway its not a big deal - I'll remember to not click twice whilst its loading up - simple solution for me, but it might happen to newer Teeworld players who are then put off cause they spent time getting far in a map to have it minimised. Who knows, its not a big issue anyway thats for certain!
Avatar
yeah but since most of the player base is on windows it should still be fixed
Avatar
Yeah that makes sense
13:15
Well at least you're aware of how the bug actually happens - If you can get a windows environment to test it in it is probably just forcing the mouse to be locked into game somehow on click I guess... Hopefully anyway (things are never THAT simple really though are they 🙂 haha)
13:16
If I knew the languages it was written in and had practiced games development some more I'd pull a branch and give it a shot myself but I wouldn't feel confident as I've not done loads of games dev before 😦 (edited)
13:17
I'm a website developer (been doing it 9 years now) so I have some understanding of these things though (edited)

I was just playing on a kobra halloween server and a weird glitch happened. The hook was detached from the tee when i was hooking through a hook teleport block.
