@KoTamashi ddnet servers are compatible with the vanilla client. But using ddnet client adds better support for playing on ddrace servers. Both the client and the server are free to use and download on https://ddnet.tw (edited)

If you really want a decent gaming expirence with friends and even get bigger. I don't recommend hosting it on your own machine. Id rather suggest renting an vps and hosting the server there.
